Operator Training
-
Client Challenge
Water and wastewater systems often face challenges ensuring consistent and effective training for water and wastewater operators - particularly with limited internal resources, challenges with train the trainer approach, poor training provided on capital projects, varying staff experience, and the loss of institutional knowledge from staff turnover or retirements. Traditional classroom training can be costly, hard to schedule, and may not reflect the specific procedures or systems in place. Without accessible, plant-specific training, operators may struggle with troubleshooting, compliance, safety, and routine tasks, increasing the risk of errors and inefficiencies.

How We Can Help
Aureus delivers customized online operator training that is easy to access and use on both desktop and mobile devices. Our training modules are built around each facility’s specific SOPs and include content on health and safety, troubleshooting, regulatory requirements, record keeping, QA/QC, and more. Interactive features like quizzes, knowledge checks, and progress tracking help reinforce learning, while flexible access allows operators to train at their own pace—anytime, anywhere. Featured Project
Aureus was retained by a utility to develop and deliver online operator training as part of its capital project delivery. The municipality faced challenges training operators on new capital projects, as using equipment vendors and consultants did not prove effective and train-the-trainer approach had not yielded effective results. Aureus worked closely with operations staff, equipment vendors and consultants to create training materials for new equipment and processes during the capital project commissioning phase to help ensure all staff were properly trained prior to the utility taking responsibility. The training included interactive lessons, mobile access, progress tracking, and quizzes to reinforce understanding of key topics like daily operations, safety procedures, and regulatory compliance. As a result, the municipality improved operator confidence and knowledge retention, and established a scalable, consistent training program accessible to all staff - regardless of location or shift schedule.
