Operator Training

  • Client Challenge

Federally regulated organizations often face unique challenges when it comes to water and wastewater management. Unlike provincially regulated systems, federal regulations are often limited, unclear, or inconsistent. Many facilities operate under a decentralized model, making it difficult to share resources, retain institutional knowledge, or maintain consistency across sites. Facility maintenance staff are frequently responsible for critical tasks such as wastewater debris removal systems, drinking water storage and distribution management and sampling but lack formal training, increasing the risk of non-compliance, asset failure, safety issues, inaccurate results, and other risks.

  • How We Can Help

Aureus provides customized training specifically designed for federally regulated facilities. We understand the unique regulatory, structural, resource and cultural challenges faced by federally regulated groups. We provide in-person, remote and/or online training to a variety of target audiences including Facilities, Environmental and others. Training is built around organizational-specific procedures and include clear, step-by-step instructions on tasks such as drinking water sampling, adverse water quality responses, drinking water emergency response, wastewater infrastructure management, legionella management, distribution system management, and others.

  • Our Expertise

Drinking Water Sampling From Plumbing Systems, Regulatory Overviews, Distribution System Management, Water Reservoir Management, Wastewater Screening and Treatment, Drinking Water Emergency Response, etc.

Featured Project

Aureus was engaged by a federally regulated agency to develop and deliver online training for maintenance personnel responsible for collecting drinking water samples from building plumbing systems. The client operated multiple facilities across Canada, each with different plumbing configurations and little formal guidance on how to collect representative samples. Aureus worked with internal stakeholders to create site-specific training modules that covered proper sampling protocols, stagnation and flushing requirements, QA/QC procedures, and documentation. The training was delivered through a mobile-accessible platform with built-in quizzes and progress tracking. As a result, staff gained confidence and clarity in performing this critical task, and the agency improved the consistency and defensibility of its water quality monitoring program across all sites.

  • The main objective was to develop and deliver online training for maintenance personnel responsible for drinking water sample collection from building plumbing systems.

  • The agency operated multiple facilities across Canada with different plumbing configurations and had little formal guidance on how to collect representative and defensible samples.

  • The training improved staff confidence and clarity, ensuring more consistent and accurate sampling practices.

  • The agency strengthened the consistency, reliability, and defensibility of its water quality monitoring program across all sites, supporting regulatory compliance and long-term system integrity.
